Thirty nine years ago today--HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!

Their story as I know it: Though mom & dad grew up literally two blocks away from one another and attended the same schools their whole lives, they had resided in separate LDS stakes and hadn't met until Allan, 19, and Vicki, 17, were set up on a date by mutual friends. They noticed each other in passing as their congregations met in the same church building and someone finally fanagled the line-up--though I've never been able to clarify who initiated! Having met just two weeks before Dad left on his mission to England, they were inseparable until he departed. He asked her to wait. She did. They corresponded by mail for two years and were engaged soon after he returned for eight months, which I think was shortened to six, and then to maybe to four? Another blurry detail though perhaps confirmed by the fact that Dad has long discouraged long engagements! They were married July 22nd, 1969 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple ...and the rest is history!

So there you have it, a genuine mormon fairy-tale. Thirty-nine years, seven kids, and five and half grandchildren later, they're still going strong and perfectly happily-ever-after as the picture depicts. :) I'm forever indebted to them for my life, the planted seeds of faith, education, strength, integrity, security, & for a wonderfully bonding belonging called home. Thanks, mom & dad, sure love you and miss you both!

You're a sweetheart, Wendy! You had the story almost right. We were engaged two months after Dad returned from his mission and were engaged for nine months---which is why we don't encourage long engagements. We know that is not an easy road.
That was so sweet. I love those opening pictures. Such a handsome couple. I love having them as in-laws. Happy Anniversary!
